ORGANIC VEGETABLES

Fighting Poverty, Malnutrition and Disease through Organic Vegetables.

NHL have been following a community development project in a remote region of South Africa where a community are desperately fighting for survival. We will bring you regular updates on how they are progressing.

The African Rural Development Corporation, a non profit organisation is rolling out the “Godisa Project”, a community development project, co-funded by the European Union, in the remote Phalala district of the Limpopo Province in South Africa.

The 120,000 inhabitants living in 41 villages live in abject poverty and are plagued by malnutrition and disease. The community has a high prevalence of HIV resulting in extended families each supporting many orphans. Unfortunately there are limited employment prospects other than subsistence farming. ORGANICALLY GROWN FOOD  ... 5 reasons why its a healthier choice for your family

Findings, made by Doctor Lu of Emory University in the US, show that children who consume an organic diet have less exposure to certain man-made chemicals. The children were tested for two common agricultural pesticides whilst eating a conventional diet, and then again 5 days after they started eating a mostly organic diet. The levels of the harmful chemicals (which have been linked to neurological disorders), fell dramatically within a number of days to a concentration six times lower than when the children were eating a conventional diet.

FOCUS ON ....   HYPERTENSION

Do you suffer from
Frequent tiredness? Nosebleeds? Blurred vision?

You could be suffering from High Blood Pressure ..

This occurs when there is an increase in the flow force of blood against the artery and heart walls.

More on telling the signs and symptoms of hypertension...

FACT:
"Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. A diet high in sodium increases the risk of developing hypertension. It has been estimated that a universal reduction in dietary intake of sodium by about 1g of sodium a day, about 3g of salt, would lead to a 50% reduction in the number of people needing treatment for hypertension." source: World Heart Federation

Products for a healthy heart  -  COENZYME Q10

Since its discovery in the late 1950s Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) has received much attention as a necessary compound for proper cellular function.
It is the essential coenzyme necessary for the production of ATP

(adenosine triphosphate)  upon which all cellular functions depend. Without ATP our bodies cannot function properly. Without CoQ10, ATP cannot function. This connection has made CoQ10 a very important object of study in relation to chronic disease.

SUPPORTING WORLD HEART DAY 28th SEPTEMBER

Physical inactivity increases the risk of developing heart disease 1.5 times1 and doubles the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Eating a diet high in fresh fruits and vegetables promotes heart health. Low fruit and vegetable intake accounts for about 20% of cardiovascular disease worldwide.

Anti-oxidants fighting “Free Radicals”
There are millions of processes happening in your body all the time, that need oxygen. However oxygen can also create harmful side-effects through oxidation that in turn damage the cells and produce “Free radicals” resulting in chronic diseases like cancer and heart attacks.

REVIEW:  " I bought this book because, although I don't have heart disease, I do have a family history of heart disease on both sides of the family.

Having read the book, I decided to follow the nutrition plan for a trial period of 3 months. I am six weeks into that trial period now and it hasn't been too hard to follow. I took my blood cholesterol today.

My previous 10 readings were all between 4.4mmol/L(170mg/dL) and 6.9mmol/L (265mg/dL) but after six weeks on this plan I recorded my lowest ever reading of 2.5mmol/L (~95mg/dL) and my ratio of total cholesterol to HDL was 4 which is well within the healthy range. "
