Breath Holding
Some babies have an alarming tendency to begin hyperventilating
during a tantrum or crying spell. In mild cases the child's lips
will turn blue and in the more serious the whole body becomes blue
and the child stops breathing altogether, losing consciousness for a
while. The whole event should be over in less than a minute
(although it feels more like a couple of hours), long before any
damage to the brain can occur. Try calming your baby before hysteria
sets in, and try not to panic during a breath holding episode as
your apprehension will only make matters worse.
