Also known as mucoviscidosis or pancreatic fibrosis, Cystic
Fibrosis is a rare disease present in young children, in which
the sweat glands and the mucus-secreting glands fail to function
properly, affecting the lungs and pancreas. The child suffers
from malnutrition and respiratory infections with a rapid loss
in weight.
Cystic fibrosis is among the most serious of lung diseases
in children!
Treatment:
- To combat weight loss, a diet high in protein and vitamin
supplements is recommended.
- Physiotherapy can be applied to help free the lungs of
mucus.
- Antibiotics to be prescribed for respiratory disorders.
- Pancreatic extract can be given to aid digestion.
- Extra salt should be added to the diet.
