Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction (ED), covers a range of mens sexual
problems but primarily refers to the inability of a man
to get an erection for normal sexual activity.
Erectile dysfunction, formerly called impotence, can
occur at any age but is more common amongst middle aged
and men older than 65.
However ED doesn’t have to be part of the aging process
for middle aged men and the over 65’s. To satisfactorily
address ED one has to understand the bodies process to
get and maintain an erection and then to establish the
cause as to why this process isn’t working.
The Erection Processes
-
The process starts when a man becomes aroused primarily
through thoughts, images, touch or smell.
-
The brain responds by passing these feelings to the
nervous system which increases the blood flow to the
penis.
-
This activity causes the blood vessels that supply the
penis to relax and increase the blood flow into the main
body of the penis resulting in an erection.
-
Then continued excitement and blood flow maintain the
erection until ejaculation when the blood drains and the
penis returns to its normal size and shape.
If any of these activities are disrupted then Erectile
Dysfunction is inevitable.
Causes of ED
The causes of ED generally fall into two categories –
Physical and Psychological
-
Physical – there are a number of physical reasons
that may cause ED, these include:
o Alcohol and drugs
o Certain pharmaceutical prescription medicines
o Diabetes
o Heart problems
o Prostrate problems
o Hormonal problems
-
Psychological – these may include:
o Depression
o Worry, stress, anxiety, fatigue or family problems
o Self conscious about ability to satisfy your partner
o Recent traumatic events
o Problems in the relationship causing lack of interest,
guilt, resentment or hostility between partners
Unfortunately ED can be very embarrassing and quite
often the physical and psychological causes interact
with each other aggravating the situation even more.
Diagnosis of ED
It is essential that you see your doctor or an ED
specialist who will assess your history, including any
medication that you are taking, and the events leading
up to the cause of ED and will do a physical examination
and various tests to establish the cause.
ED Treatment
The treatment is totally dependent on the cause or in
many cases the multiple causes. Although there are a
number of new pharmaceutical drugs on the market most of
them have unpleasant side affects, so I suggest that you
discuss these as well as alternative treatments with
your doctor. However I suggest that you also look at the
natural treatments that are available. Richard
recommends starting with the Male Power Pack and taking
a natural erection stimulant when you have sex.
