LIFESTYLE DISEASES

GLANDULAR FEVER
(Mononucleosis)

Said to be caused by the Epstein Barr Virus. Common in the 10-25 year old age group across both sexes. Can be transmitted via saliva. Symptoms include exhaustion, sore throat, fever, muscular aches and pains, swollen lymph glands (particularly in the neck) and a compromised respiratory system. The "Bad News" is that symptoms can go on for months and can recur for several years. To prevent this, pay due attention to diet, rest and daily nutritional supplements.

LIFESTYLE ATTENTION

  • Rest is of paramount importance. Bed best.
  • No strenuous exercise.
  • Post recovery one feels tired for anything up to 3 months. Take it easy otherwise a relapse may occur.
  • Alcohol and smoking must be quit.
  • Drink warm lemon, ginger and honey drinks and herbal teas fairly frequently, without milk or sugar, or just plain filtered water (green tea from sencha leaves).
  • Vegetable and fruit juices freshly squeezed, on rising (do not mix veg. and fruit).
