HYPOTHYROIDISM
(Under-Active Thyroid)

The Thyroid Gland, based at the bottom of the front of the neck controls the body's metabolic rate, including blood glucose levels. It however, is controlled by the pituitary and hypothalamus glands situated further up, in the brain. The latter (Hypothalamus) is sensitive to strong emotions, which in turn causes the thyroid to react to these states, which can throw up such symptoms as.

LIFESTYLE ATTENTION

  • Cease use of "Diet" pills (eg. forms of speed, dexedrine etc.)
  • Cease eating kale, cabbage, peanuts, soy products, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, kohirabi, turnips. These hinder the utilisation of iodine and are referred to as "goitrogens".
  • Include other foods that are unrefined and as close to their natural grown state as possible (i.e. newly grown, and organic).
  • Raw green salads, nuts, seeds, sprouted seeds and beans, and freshly extracted vegetable juices are excellent treatments in themselves. (Seek professionally qualified nutritional advice.)
  • No meat except "free range" reared.
  • To self-test for hypothyroidism apply the well known "Barnes Basal Test" as follows:
    • Obtain a mercury thermometer.
    • At bedtime shake it down and place on table by bedside.
    • On normal rising time, place under either armpit for 10 minutes, while
you lie back quietly. Then record the reading. Repeat over 3 days
    • If the average temperature taken, is lower than 36.4 (97.8) see your doctor for indicated hypothyroidism. Normal is in the range 36.4 (97.8)-36.7 (98.2).
    • Women menstruating should take temperature on days 2 and 3 of menstrual flow to obtain accuracy.
