PREGNANCY

Piles

A further dilemma of constipation is that it may contribute to the development of piles (haemorrhoids), which are varicose veins that form in the rectum. Due to the weight of your growing baby putting pressure on the veins in the pelvic region, combined with constipation, the tendency to develop piles is greater during pregnancy. Luckily, it is more common for expectant woman to suffer from internal piles which are far less painful and evident than external piles, which actually bulge out of the opening of the anus.
Internal piles present themselves in the form of slight bleeding after a bowel movement. This may feel tender or quite painful, and you may sense an uncomfortable 'fullness' in the rectum, even after just using the toilet.
Fortunately, piles that manifest themselves during pregnancy, usually subside shortly after the birth of your baby, if they persist however, ask your doctor for advice and treatment.
