Nausea

Although commonly referred to as 'morning sickness', nausea and vomiting can strike at any part of the day, lasting until the 14th week or throughout the nine months. It is thought to be caused from the release of certain hormones at the start of pregnancy, and the severity is probably due to the mother's particular reaction to these hormones. There is no way that this pregnancy ailment will do any harm to the mother or baby, and it is only in the extreme cases, when a mother is unable to keep any food down that problems such as dehydration and weight loss occur.

  • Try eating ginger in one form or another, it is believed to help combat nausea.
  • Because nausea usually strikes first thing in the morning, it may help by eating dry toast or digestive biscuits before getting out of bed.
  • Try eating smaller meals more often, concentrating on foods that you can eat.
  • What might work for you may not work for the next, and it is only by personal discovery that you may find true relief.
