Varicose Veins
There is a tendency for pregnant women to develop varicose veins, if small they may well go unnoticed, but in the extreme cases, they can result in aching legs and sometimes swollen ankles especially after standing for long periods. Because of your circulation not being as effective as before, taking longer for the blood to flow back from the legs and the increase in fluids that pass through your veins together with hormones that weaken the vein walls, this causes swelling.
- Improve your circulation by regular exercising of the legs.
- Avoid wearing tight, restrictive clothing such as knee-high stockings and socks.
- Try and rest at least twice a day.
