Sleep Problems
When
plagued by sleepless nights, it is important to remember two things.
Firstly, sleep disturbances are very common in the first two years
of a child’s life; secondly, all babies differ, and comparing
your baby to that of other mothers, will only leave you feeling
anxious, especially if they have been blessed with a child who
peacefully slept right through the night from the very beginning.
Some babies at a very young age, may for instance spend eighteen out
of the twenty-four hours asleep, while others may only sleep for
twelve, and as long as your baby is thriving, you can be sure that
he is satisfying his need for rest.
Quite a number of babies will wake during the night, for reasons
other than a soiled nappy or wanting to be fed. With the variety of
stimulation he receives each day, he may just want the same
reassurance at night, and if you spend a few minutes each evening
cuddling and soothing your baby, you will in the later months gain
the reward of having a calm and contented child.
