Stress. This single word says it all. No other adjectives,
descriptions or qualitative embellishments are necessary. If you
tell anyone you are suffering from stress, they don't have to be a
health professional to know what you mean. Stress is nothing new, it is just that in today's society it has
come out of the proverbial closet and spread all around us. But it
is no friend to mankind. Most people know when they are "stressed"
and at that point they want out, and fast. Our modern lifestyles don't help. Stressors and stimulants are major
players. They seduce our bodies into feeling good and our brains
into hitting highs and making us feel ready to "go for it". In doing
so they consume physical and mental energies at a faster rate than
most of us know how to replace them. Obviously, too much work and a
consistently tight schedule with not enough time off to relax, are
serious causes of stress. So is worry But some of the so-called
stress relievers people frequently turn to, also don't help.
The
major players, in more or less this order, have been listed as:
- Alcohol
- Cocaine
- Amphetamines
- Opiates
- Barbiturates
- Marijuana
- Tobacco / smoking
- Anti-depressants
- Caffeine

to drive our enzyme systems and maintain consistent energy levels. Chronic stress has a major effect on the immune system's healing
capabilities, downloading less and less of the body's anti-aging
hormones and invader fighters When this happens, digestive juices
become compromised, the colon's peristalsis movements become lazier
and lazier, and blood supplies to various organs are reduced. So how
do we cope with stress?
Firstly, look to those nutrients and herbs that are now known to
make a difference within a relatively short space of time. These
include.
